Full Footprint Calculator

One of our goals has always been to create one of those nifty online calculators - you know the ones, answer a few frustratingly simplistic questions, and then you get a glimpse of your environmental impacts. We wanted to create one which, instead of just featuring your carbon, water, or land footprint - combined all three.

Well, though it's been a bit of a challenge, at last we have one! 

What it does:

• Answer 9 questions by clicking the picture which best represents your life
• Learn about your life's impact in the results
• Presented with some options, customized to your answers, which you can do to improve your impacts

Simple enough, right?

 A lot went into it, and while it's not yet complete, here's a bit about the journey:

• We found the people who created one of the first, and most rigorous ecological and carbon footprint calculators. We asked them to help us with the water data, so we'd have the best information available. 
• We had to choose how to divide up lives of people from all over into a few questions, which was soooo frustrating! 
• We found it was very difficult to find an average, ie. how much your action will impact your footprint, given the possible variations. So instead, our methodology just has ways to shrink your impact, and the picture of your impact shrinks, but we don't associate specific numbers
• Originally we wanted to include events people could support and attend in their communities, but as we did more research realized existing platforms doing so hadn't been very successful, and hope that people are able to search through things like social media and eventbrite to find relevant local events.
